Do I need an on-site NVR or proprietary hardware adapter?
No. If your cameras or local NVR support FTP/FTPS upload, they stream directly over your network to Rilavek without requiring proprietary bridge hardware (like Videoloft adapters) or dedicated recording servers. You can run completely NVR-free or keep an on-premise NVR and use Rilavek in parallel as an offsite cloud backup.
Can I mix and match different camera brands in the same cloud bucket?
Yes. Unlike proprietary vendor clouds (such as Reolink Cloud, Hik-Connect, or Dahua DoLynk) that lock you into a single ecosystem, Rilavek is built on open standards. Do all IP cameras support direct FTP upload?
No. Built-in FTP and FTPS client firmware is standard on many PoE (Power over Ethernet), wired, and commercial IP cameras (as well as standalone NVRs) from manufacturers like Reolink, Hikvision, Dahua, Axis, Amcrest, and Uniview. However, battery-powered cameras and closed consumer ecosystems (such as Ring, Nest, Blink, or Wyze) typically lack FTP support. Use the model directory above to check your specific camera.
How do supported IP cameras send video footage to Rilavek?
On supported models, you enter your unique Rilavek Pipe endpoint, port, and credentials into the camera's Network > FTP settings in its web management interface. When motion is detected, an AI event triggers, or a scheduled recording window opens, the camera's native firmware streams the video clip directly to your pipe.
Does this support continuous 24/7 recording or event-based clips?
Both modes are supported depending on your camera's firmware. Most users configure motion detection or AI event detection (person, vehicle, or pet triggers) and scheduled snapshots to minimize storage and egress costs. However, cameras configured to split continuous footage into timed chunks (e.g., 2 to 5-minute clips) can stream uninterrupted 24/7.
Is my surveillance footage encrypted and private?
Yes. Rilavek operates with zero data at rest. Video data passes through an in-memory buffer directly into your private object storage bucket over TLS/FTPS without ever touching server disks. Rilavek cannot view or decrypt your footage; you retain full control over your cloud bucket and encryption keys.
